This is a harder question than you are making it out to be. There are more factors to the situation. If he has the gun already pointed at you and you can't quickly reach him you aren't going to be able to do much without being shot. You can't help her if you are dead. Sure you can sacrifice your life trying to save her but your chances are not good. You need to maximize the chances of saving her.
But, yeah, if he is trying to take one of my kids, I am getting shot.
