It’s pompous, and overly grandiose in its marketing spots. Golf does this patina of “class” or faux-refinement that I find bothersome. Still, their viewing audience is generally more affluent, so its marketing conforms to appeal to that demo. The commercials are for Lexus and medications, not Modelo and Monster energy (UFC).
That said, all big sporting events are “overrrated” insofar as the marketing/build up is heavy handed.
See: Kentucky Derby, Final 4, Super Bowl. It’s all business, and whatever they’re doing clearly works.
So who am I to judge. If it bothers me, that probably means I’m watching too much tv.
