"best team" vs. "most deserving" is the single dumbest argument in all of sports, and obviously mainly occurs in college football, but college bball as well.
it should be "most deserving" 1000000000% of the time. that's the entire point.

I've been arguing this since at least 2006, when I thought LSU was probably good enough to win the NC, but didn't deserve to play for it since they lost 2 games. Always, always, always "deserving." At least that attempts to be objective. "Best" is 100% subjective, and we are reminded every single year that we are not great at determining who's the "best."
