There’s been a lot of buzz around that today. It was only a matter of time with them playing in a college venue that seats about a third of what most NHL arenas hold.

Arizona was obviously doomed but Salt Lake City is not in my top 10 of places I’d think would be in line for a hockey team.

Story i heard, is NHL buys Arizona for 1 billion, then sells them to Salt Lake City group for a nice profit.

SLC would support the hell out of NHL.

Makes a lot of sense too bc they need to replace Delta Centre and easier to get something passed for 2 major league clubs instead of 1.

I looked up the size of major markets and did not realize it was so large.

There's a lot of money and civic pride in SLC. The people there support sports at a higher rate than most cities bc the LDS population doesn't have nearly as many entertainment options as less strict folks.

MLB would kill it there and the stadium would almost certainly have the best backdrop in North American major league sports.

2.7 million people live along the Wasatch Front from Ogden to Provo. And it is rapidly growing.

Thought they just agreed to a new arena/complex near Scottsdale?

And an increasing number of them aren't LDS.

I was in the same hotel former minority owner Andrew Barroway was in when he arrested for beating the shite out of his estranged wife last year. After he was arrested, she cashed out, and the NHL forced him to sell--this was all but inevitable.

It ain't huge. New Orleans has a more populous metro area.

Houston would likely be an expansion team alongside Atlanta

Utah approved a bill for funding a new arena for the NBA/NHL last month. It would also revitalize the downtown area.

SLC downtown and surrounding areas already kick arse.

This’ll be a nice add.

As far as your rip off scenario: the Jazz are far more successful in Utah than they ever were in New Orleans.
