If this was their route they should have went MM.

The guy has won in the state of Kentucky before. Pretty much owned cal with a moral victory and actual win. Also complete opposite of Cal as MM is squeaky clean.

It’s kind of hilarious that Kentucky ended up with the worst coach out of SMU, USC, and Arkansas.

Those are things that happen when you have an old washed AD.

Once an AD has a foot out the door you better hope a coach doesn’t leave.

I’m surprised UK fans didn’t stage a riot like UT did over Greg

We haven't won more than 23 games in a long time anyway. Its why we had a coaching search to begin with.

I think Pope is a solid coach, not sure if he's ready for Kentucky, but we will see I guess.

Kentucky fans need to prepare themselves for a lot less one and done's and a lot more players who stay 3-4 years, which is the actual recipe for success in March now a days.

I would think UK fans would support a former player, especially one that was a captain a championship team, coming back to lead the squad. It might be underwhelming, but he's had a solid progression. Given additional resources, he should be able to be a consistent winner. It's similar to what Duke and UNC did to replace long time coaches..

Pope pretty much matched BYU's performance over the last 45 years so it's not like he elevated the program.

Seems to me that Mitch Barnhart did a lazy job with 2 out of the last 3 hires.

He failed to do basic due diligence on Billy Clyde that would have revealed him as a raging alcoholic who reportedly had erratic behavior while coaching A&M and now he settles for a guy who he could have still gotten after doing a more thorough search.

By and large Kentucky fans around here seem like massive assholes.

I’m enjoying the hordes of Arkansas fans harassing them over on the SECr.

Yeah, that's where I'm at on it. Not a flashy hire, but they didn't make them either.
Jeff Sheppard (Reed's dad) was on local radio this morning, he and Pope were roommates, and he's ecstatic for the hire, thinks Pope will do well given a bit of time, and I think it's very possible.

As I mentioned earlier, it will be an adjustment for UK. No more one and done's, but that formula hasn't won anything a in a while now, so that's okay with me. I would rather get solid players who developer over a couple of years, and then use the portal to fill in gaps, like Uconn has done.

Was it what I expected, no. Am I angry about it, no. I think, let's give him a chance to see if he can elevate himself to the position.

BYU had better overall records, but below the average for tournament appearances and wins going back to 1979-80 for that time frame.

The years with Rose (member of the Phi Slama Jama) are elevated over the others for that time period.

I mean...how much can one elevate a program like BYU? That school has major major limitations. Considering how consistent he was there and Utah St...now having the resources of a school like Kentucky...i think this could be a sleeper great hire. He is a Kentucky alum and champion. It may not be flashy, but he could be a guy that stays there for a long time. I can remember back to when Ohio State hired a guy most people had never heard of...a guy by the name of Jim Tressel from Youngstown St. Worked out pretty well for Ohio State. Kentucky could have done worse...lets be honest.

Lots of coaches have elevated programs much worse than BYU
