You have to be a unique type of coach to be successful at a school like Kentucky.

Like? Name a school that has as many restrictions like no sex, no alcohol, no caffeine etc etc that will literally get you kicked out of school. Go ahead...ill wait. Recruits aren't lining up to play at BYU. The fact he was able to win 20+ games tells you he can coach. Kentucky fans should give this a chance.

byu has won 20+ games every year besides 4 times since 2000. he was one of the 4
acting like BYU is a nothing program is stupid, they have been solid. i think pope could be good, but let's not pretend he did something that he did not do. he won 0 tournament games and made the tournament 3 out of 5 seasons (2 of 4, but would have made covid year). he stayed completely on par with their program's success level.
this was a good year in a big 12 transition and i would be encouraged by that if i were kentucky. and then they lost to duquesne....
it's just a little bizarre, but he's one of their own, it could work for sure

Didn’t realize he played at UK for Pitino and also played for Larry Bird in Indiana.

How so? On what planet is it harder to recruit at Baylor than it is at BYU??? Are yall smoking crack? 5* 4* Recruits are not lining up to go to BYU...the simple fact BYU has been able to remain a competitive school in ANY sport is amazing. Did yall miss the part where its illegal to have sex, drink alcohol or drink tea at BYU? Holy smokes...

Drew walked into a situation that was akin to a program coming off the death penalty lol

Oral Roberts has had ONE decent NCAA tournament in 2021. That's it...how is that "infinitely" better??

Still WAAAAAAY easier to recruit at Baylor than it is at BYU. Baylor just built a new arena. WAAAAAAY easier job at Baylor. I'm pretty sure that Mark Pope beat #25 Baylor and Scott Drew this year 78-71 in BYU first year in the Big 12.

Already received a 4 million dollar pledge for NIL and the Crafts say they’ll put in 5 million.
I’m optimistic but sounds like we never made a push for Donovan which is odd.

Baylor Basketball recruiting rankings:
2024 - #9
2023 - #3
2022 - #26
2021 - #15
2020 - #20
BYU Basketball recruiting rankings:
2024 - #67
2023 - #80
2022 - #80
2021 - #150
2020 - #80
Not even in the same universe...And yet Mark Pope was able to BEAT Scott Drew...Kentucky's "preferred choice"...with considerably less talent than Scott Drew's Baylor squad. What does that say about Scott Drew...nothing...it says more about Mark Pope. Y'all are way too blind. Give Mark Pope the access to resources and no more restrictions...then we will see how good of a coach he can be. Again...BYU is a TOUGHHHHH place to coach. Anybody who cant see that, isn't being realistic.

Lol. A "blue blood" school like Kentucky can't find a better hire than Pope?
Maybe he can hire Kenny Payne as an assistant.

And?????? It is still WAAAAAY easier to recruit and build a program at school that doesnt have the strict student code restrictions that BYU does. The fact that Drew was able to take that situation and win an national championship proves MY point. My goodness...
