With some stories, especially fictional works, race is immaterial.
It should make sense, at least in some way. Hell even in house of the dragon they do a fair bit and it doesn't detract.
But in an actual historical setting...
I think Tom Hardy is a great actor.
I don't want to see him playing Shaka Zulu because
"Oh no! This melodrama set in 17th century Poland doesn't have any 'people of color'!"
You know why? Because
