Unfortunately, I saw this coming. Nuts > stuff can only work for so long. I knew after the league had seen him for a full year, his 2nd time through would be much more difficult. I still don't think he's this bad, though, and can have a role, but like others have pointed out, he just has zero room for error with what he throws. Nobody has to respect his fastball, and they can just sit off-speed. So, a cutter doesn't cut, a slider hangs, and they get pounded into the bleachers.

I do think his development has been stunted by injury. I think it's kept him from putting on some weight, which would help tremendously. With his frame, he should be able to put on a solid 15-20 pounds. Unfortunately, I don't know that he's healthy enough to put in the work in the gym that that would require. You've got to move heavy weight to gain significant weight, and I think (his back?) injury from high school still lingers a bit and moving that kind of weight puts him at significant risk of re-injury.

he has a ton of low hanging fruit to add tons of velo with weight gain and strength. 1 of the big reasons he keeps getting hurt is those reasons.

but i dont htink the issue with him not gaining weight is the injuries...it starts with a P and ends with a Y. You have to truely want to get bigger and stronger and be willing to put that work in and tell the GF to frick off if she isnt on board with what it takes.
