As has already beeb pointed out, she's not. She was a substitute teacher at the school. The "dynamic" was that of a baby-sitter for the day.

It most certainly was to the poster to whom I was replying. You might want to actually read the conversations instead of just rushing in to comment on what you'd like to say based on the headlines.

Substitute teachers aren’t employees of the school? Are they volunteers?

Which is also an employee.
Some substitutes have long term contracts or work year around.

I guess they are temporary employees of the school system, as they can be sent out to multiple schools in the system, not just one.

I think you mean to say that some are on long term assignment at one school.
Here's why that's unlikely in this case.
In order to do anything but babysit temporarily, you have to have credentials in the classes you are subbing for. Anybody can walk in and babysit for a day or two, but if you are on long term assignment and are going to actually be teaching and testing and giving grades (which is why you guys are saying that this would be relevant), you have to have a degree and a certificate in that subject area.
Now, that does happen. If you have the degree and credentials but you don't have a permanent job yet you could get an assignment like that for someone who quit part-way through the year or was out on extended leave or something.
Is that what was happening in this case?

When I taught, sub or not, my check came from the district.
Most teachers are district employees.

So she’s an employee of the school/district.

It really is that simple and yes, adults taking advantage of that dynamic should be illegal.
So let's say that the (supposed) leverage applied wasn't sex.
Let's say that the adult took advantage of that dynamic by requiring the student to come to her house and wash her car or mow her lawn in exchange for passing grades.
How much prison time should that be worth?

So she’s an employee of the school.
O.k.
Answer the question above.

But it was by simple virtue of her employment.

She’d be fired, but I have no idea why that would mean jail time or why you think that’s a relevant comparison.
I guess your point is that in a totally different situation, there would be a different outcome? Dynamite thought there.

Because you strongly implied that the issue was the leverage she was exerting given her position. That is what you said "was that simple. And yes, it should be illegal." That's also why you're being pedantic about her employment status.
But it's not, is it?
It's because she had sex with the guy. Not because she exerted leverage (which she almost certainly did not have to do).
Let's admit that first. Then we can get back to what about that in this case warrants prison time.

Place something thin down the middle of her picture. Looks like 2 different people lmao

It’s not an implication. It’s a fact.

In her position as a teacher in his school, yes.

She knowingly violated a criminal statue against teachers fricking students. Again—very simple.

All teachers are employees of the school board though.

O.k., if you're going to be that kind of idiot, then please stop wasting my time.
I have said from the beginning that I'm not arguing that what she did was legal. Everybody knows that. I'm questioning whether it should be punishable by prison time.
You acted like you understood that until I exposed the faulty logic in your reasoning, now you're pivoting back to (in the voice of an insufferable nerd) "She should go to prison because it's the law...very simple."
I'll give you one more chance and then I'm ignoring you if you can't be honest:
Was the reason you think she deserved prison time because she had sex with a 17 year old, or because she engaged in a relationship with a student that could involve a conflict of interest due to a power differential?
If you are going to say some version of, "She deserved prison because she knowingly broke the law," please don't bother.

What flaw exactly? Please tell me you aren’t referring to your stupid lawn mowing example.
Teachers fricking students should be illegal.

Once again. Because she fricked a student. I believe that to be completely worthy of jail time.

I didn't say you weren't.
That doesn't change the fact there's a power dynamic if you're sleeping with a 30/40yo that has money, car, house, connections... Unless you hit it and got out an hour later every time, there's a chance it can do something to you.
