Recently got an air fryer & am wanting to try fried fish next
I want to use regular fish fry breading, a lot of the recipes online use bread crumbs & I’ve come across a few posts saying the breading doesn’t stick.

Does anyone have any tricks and or advice?

Thanks,

You can make some pretty great fish in the air fryer, but if you just want fried fish, then do what the other poster suggested and get that oil hot!

The breading doesn't stick as well because in an air fryer, there's a fan that is blowing hot air onto what you are cooking.

I've made chicken nuggets using panko and egg wash in an air fryer and they came out great...but I've never tried using fish fry seasoning, so I can't help you there. If I were you, I'd just go for it and see how you like it.

Agree with posts above. For fried fish use oil.

For an air fryer regular fish fry isn’t gonna work. An air fryer is just a more efficient oven. You would need to use products specifically for air fryer or oven (i.e. shake n bake).

An air fryer is great for re-heating/crisping up fried foods. But I havent had much luck battering and "frying" anything in ours. Usually just makes a mess and a sub par product.

There's a keto guy on YouTube who batters his food with pork rinds and shredded cheddar. I think he starts with an egg wash.

I've tried it before with a few crappie fillets and it was serviceable for a Po Boy, but subpar from actual deep frying.

AF's are good for small batch frozen products like chicken wings, chicken tenders, frozen french fries and tater tots, and things of that nature. Much faster than the conventional oven, comes out crispy, don't have to break out all the oil. As someone else said, great with Gordon's fish sticks too.

I'll never put a fresh fish fillet in an air fryer ever again.

I just don’t get the air fryer craze. Isn’t it essentially a convection oven, only smaller?

Louisiana makes boxed air fryer mixes (fish, pork & chicken). We do this fairly often - it’s a quick and easy weeknight meal with no oil and minimal cleanup. Our local store always has the pork and chicken mixes. The fish batter is hit or miss, but we’ve used the air fryer chicken mix on freshly caught bass or sacalait and it’s a great meal! The kids love “fish sticks,” especially when they were the ones to reel ‘em in!

You can do fish sticks in the air fryer. Other than that, stop being a fig and heat up some grease.
