There was no reason for him to do that documentary,

Yeah, I never understood what the pitch to him was that he not only agreed to a documentary about him, but to give so much access that it turned into a multi-episode mini tv series instead of a typical 80(ish) minute documentary. Sure, he was obviously a huge narcissist, and like you said, loved him some Robert Durst. But he was clearly intelligent--I just can't believe he lacked the self-awareness to not know just how bad he would come off. Maybe he didn't care. And I can only imagine how much his attorneys tried to talk him out of it. Or maybe not, maybe they made bank on it too.

Well, he's dead, so hard to say 'no.' I'm assuming HBO owns all the original footage and is legally free to do whatever they want to with it. Not sure he has an "estate" at all, much less one that would care enough to protect his image. That toothpaste is out of the tube, may as well milk it for whatever you can.

I haven’t seen this one. But the very short trailer I saw was him interviewing in prison. So not sure if that is just a small snippet, or if it’s all legit jailhouse interviews.
