Why do we care about this? I’m told we’re not to meddle in other countries and/or establish bases and influence there.

Lots of shady banking in Antigua. If you want to hide or wash your money, that's the place along with Panama.

You do realize you’re making their point for them, right? China influencing countries close to our border is an issue for us just like the US influencing countries on Russia's border is an issue for Russia.
