Believe it or not, the nightlife in France continued from 1940-1945; from prewar, to occupation by Nazi's, to post war, there were still cinemas open and bars open, with people, including males in them. There's books you can go read about how cultural life went on despite the war and losing to Nazi's.
Not saying you are on the wrong side of history, but the reasoning is flawed, if you are aware of history.
