Point of order: those of us who live in Baton Rouge rarely need to cross the New Bridge, which is generally the most glaring issue. And for any local traffic, there are a dozen ways to avoid the interstate when you interlopers clog it up
A lot of locals avoid surface streets to take the interstate to get around town. That doesn't help traffic issues.

Consolidating almost every state office building downtown is a huge part of the problem. Too many commuters coming from the Livingston and Ascension areas is another part of the problem. Both of these things contributed greatly to the Interstate congestion headed in and out of BR in the last 20 years.

Of course; it’s running through the middle of our city. But the next time you’re sitting in BR interstate gridlock, pay attention to the percentage of cars you see taking local exits versus just staying in the gridlock. You’ll have a few clueless idiots, but for the most part, the interlopers are still sitting on the interstate long after Google Maps told the locals to stay off.
