Hindsight is 20/20. By default he had to trust his medical professionals out of the gate in that situation.
Unless you expect him to see the future and know Fauci was a snake.
I think anyone does the same at that point.

He should have known Fauci and Birx were snakes - full on lying to him - on day 16 after “fifteen days to flatten the curve”. It cost him his job, and I don’t think he’s ever recognized it.
