I agree. But the issue is that parents are delusional. They can't see that high school ball is the end of the line. If 5% of high school baseball players play at the next level, 60% of players and parents think their son is good enough to get to the next level. So HS teams are filled with kids who care about the next level that don't have a realist chance at it. So when more than half of your team cares very little about winning, it causes a weird dynamic.

Another issue is assistant coaches in HS who are part of travel organizations such as the Knights. If you don't play for that org in summer you are black balled regardless of talent. Also HS coaches who are helping hitting coaches on side are determining playing time based off if kid is going lessons with them vs someone else. Seen it first hand and it is an absolute joke.
