If you think Penix is a franchise QB you sign a bridge QB for a couple years not a guy for 4 yrs 180.
You guys are getting too caught up in the 4 years.
It's 2 years guaranteed w/an option for a 3rd. The 4th year is a dummy year to help w/the cap number. Cousins will never see that 4th year, and possibly not even the 3rd.
It's for all intents and purposes a 2 year deal w/an option for a 3rd.

Yeah guy on ESPN explained that it's basically a 2yr/100m deal... if you look at it that way 50m about the going rate for a competent QB

What you aren't understanding is that the most valuable years of a QB's career are the years he is on his rookie contract, and the Falcons are freely throwing away AT LEAST two of those years on a 24 year old QB who is basically a less accurate Tua with a stronger arm.
They're basically going to get to see him play for one season before they have to decide on his fifth year option. That is asinine. The rookie wage scale changed everything about team building and the dumbass Falcons are the last ones to realize it, as usual.

The "option" is keeping him or have 25 mil of dead money on the cap if you cut him after the 2nd yr. Even if they cut him they'll still be paying over 30 mil for the QB position even when he's gone.
