Johnson made the CWS finals his first year at Arizona, presumably with the former coach's recruits.

Why couldn't Andy Lopez win with his own recruits? Maybe he did a poor job of coaching them. The more likely answer is that they were still young, inexperienced players, and young, inexperienced teams don't win championships.
They were an older, more mature, more experienced group when Johnson took over.
