I think we’ll look back at McKinstry as a great pick

First off, I’m always on board with stacking CBs. You play 3 at pretty much all times these days.
Lattimore, we all know is in limbo. Beyond that, he also turns 28 this month and has missed significant time the last 2 seasons. Even if he’s on the roster in 2024, he’s not in the 5 year plan.
Can Adebo replicate his 2023? If so, he may be too expensive to retain. If not, I think you have a hard decision on what to pay him. I think he’s a good candidate for a modest extension like Carl Granderson right before the season, if he’s open to that.
Alontae is kind of an enigma right now. Is he a true outside CB or slot? Can he be more consistent with his great flashes. Idk.
Kool Aid was a very smart pick for the above reasons. I believe he’s fairly polished and could contribute immediately but more than that, he should be a big piece for the future at a premium position

i've been telling ya'll cb has been an under the radar need on the roster.

Exactly why I said Branch should have been the pick last year in the 2nd. Could have played nickel last year and kept Taylor on the outside. Or tried him at safety last year. Nice to see Loomis try to fix his mistakes.

I think this is the hard thing. He's clearly better on the outside imo. I just don't know when we'll get the chance to put him back there without injury
IMO Koolaid is more in the Lattimore mold (coverage, not a ballhawk) whereas Taylor is more like Adebo (playmaker who sometimes lapses in coverage). So if we move off Latt this year, I could see Adebo and Koolaid starting outside which once again puts Taylor on the bench or in the slot where he isn't very good

he's in his prime, prolly will be for the next 2 - 4 years. i think he's gone post june 1st because of his cap next year. we'd save over 10mil on the 2025 cap by trading him. i'd rather keep him, top 5 cb in the nfl and prolly the best cb the organization has ever had.

His prime was probably his rookie season tbh. He’s an elite player, yes, but 30 is kind of the drop off for CBs like we always talk about for RBs.
The data suggest 26-27 is peak years for CBs. There’s a drop off at 30 and bigger drop off at 32. LINK

And if you are not competing for a SB in the next 2-4 years, you probably should be looking to get some assets now rather than wait until he's on the backend and you are overpaying on an aging contract.
I agree that I would prefer to have him on our team, but at the same time hard decisions need to be made to fix the mess we are in. Plus, him having a high ankle sprain that sidelined him for almost 1/2 the season makes me think his prime windows are starting to close and it's closer to 1-2 years than it is 2-4 years.

After drafting mckinstry you definitely trade lattimore.

Don’t dismiss adebo being traded if the market for latt ain’t there

he had a good rookie season, but i think 2021 was his best year. i just think he'll still be better at 32 than most other cbs in the league. i don't want to trade him, i just think we will because it makes sense.
ETA: most cbs are not marshawn lattimore. one of the best to ever do it.

yeah, saving 11 or 12 mil towards the cap next year and drafting kool-aid seems to signal the end of latts time with us. will always be one the best to ever wear the black and gold.
they'll trade him for a 6th if someone will take on that contract.

Should've taken the Lassiter kid from UGA (picked right after him) Lemonaide takes plays off and can be burnt.

kool-aid is a good cb. more importantly, he's our type of cb.

lassiter is a good player, but isn't a man cb. wouldn't surprise me if he gets moved to fs at some point. all man/press cbs get burned from time to time. lassiter can't even play that way in the nfl.

when ya right ya right...
i thought the same thing. thought foskey shoulda been a 3rd round or later pick. too stiff. i'm saying that as being a big notre dame homer and fan of foskey.

Yea Lassiter is a NFL safety all the way to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if McKinstry was CB1 on the saints board.

i could see lassiter being good in zone defense, but yeah, no way is lassiter anything like kool-aid. i'm not sure if he's better at man than wiggins, but he has 20+ lbs on him w/o any real drop-off other than long speed. i do think he is a better pure press cb than his teammate arnold, though not as well rounded.

Thw one thing DA has excelled in has been identifying Talent at CB. If he thinks he is worth drafting, i think the production will be there. Unless he makes a trade with any of the other CB pieces, i question the need, though.

Was really hoping for DeJean over McKinstry, but he went a pick earlier. That may have been what incentivized Saints to trade up and grab Kool-Aid.
