Superbad not only stands on its own, but is from the start shot as a period piece. Like Dazed and Confused, it’s going to hold up due to this. It brings you into the times very well and isn’t really dependent on any pop culture references outside of a side joke about Aladdin and the Coen Brothers.

agree with all of this. i absolutely love dazed and confused. i don't really relate at all to the specific events unfolding, but you relate to the characters and the overarching concepts.

superbad is the same in that way, IMO.

NATM is probably the movie i would put right up there with superbad for myself and my friends, but as everyone has said, if you haven't seen 20 teen comedies from the 80s, 90s, early 2000s, then it wont be a hit. you don't need to have seen the specific ones refrerenced IMO, but you have to see a collection to fully get it.
