Why is driving an ATV on public roads illegal but being a dipshit cyclist condoned?
I’d be willing to bet that the cop was patrolling the path because of complaints about ATVs being on it.

Maybe he should have turned on his lights and siren instead turning in front of him and causing a bad wreck.
According to the YouTube link, the cop had his blue lights on but it looks like he could have gotten out of his cruiser and just flagged him down.

I'm sorry, guys....I gotta know...hey CleverUserName - what do you think about this?
I think the cop was in the right because the DUI driver had already committed multiple felonies, including aggravated assault, and property destruction.
I thought unrelated scenarios were bad?

The cop deserves a medal.
And the a-hole on the 4 wheeler deserves to go to jail. He he should also have to pay for any and all damages to the cop car

Is this for real?

You read some of these responses, and you realize that their vote counts, just like yours.

I’m a supporter of the police 99% of the time. Not this time. Police officer is at fault. Police car has fricking lights and a siren. Use them.
Blaming the idiot on the ATV for hitting the police car is completely wrong. WTF was the cop thinking? Piss poor judgement which says A LOT.

As often the case in these extreme outcomes, neither party is looking particularly great.

He had his lights on.
The path is for pedestrians, bikes, and emergency vehicles only. No other motorized vehicles.
Guy on the ATV was breaking the law, plus driving at an excessive rate of speed.
Police officer was totally justified. The ATV driver should count his blessings he didn’t get tazed or shot as well.

He’s a cop so he’ll walk and face zero consequences.
He should face zero consequences. Very good chance he prevented that idiot from hitting bicyclists or pedestrians.
Kudos to the police officer for a job well done.

Anyone blaming the ATV rider is a cop-loving arse-kisser. Deliberately wrecking the ATV rider should be met with criminal charges and a massive lawsuit.
Police officer deserves a commendation for a job well done.
ATV driver was an idiot.

The ATV guys shouldn't be riding on the road. The cop should have not pulled out in front of him, what did he think was going to happen? Possibly killing someone isn't worth the crime of illegally driving an ATV on the road.
The ATV driver was traveling at a high rate of speed, unable to quickly stop, and was headed towards bicyclists and pedestrians.
Would you have preferred the ATV driver plow into a bunch of innocent people?

He shouldn't have blocked him, maybe hit his lights to let him know to slow down, then turn and go get him.
He reportedly had his lights on already. ATV dude still couldn’t stop. If he couldn’t stop for a police car with lights on, he would’ve plowed those people over.
By the time the cop stopped in your scenario, made a three point turn (at least) and started after him those people were likely dead or severely injured.

The cop is a hero. He sacrificed his car to stop an atv driving both illegally and at excessive speeds endangering hikers and pedestrians along an UNMOTORIZED path.
Posted on 5/3/24 at 6:04 pm to 0x15E
He blocked the ATV so it wouldn't mow down the bike riders

Nope. Cop is a hero for quick thinking to save those kids' lives. His response was PERFECT.

This has to be sarcasm.
