I was in the 5th grade when this film came out and my dad checked me out of school early to go see it. So I will always have a soft spot for the film. While I loved (and still do) the original trilogy, I didn't really have a favorite character until this film and I saw a young Obi-Wan, who to this day many years later is still my favorite SW character. Also, there is no better lightsaber duel in the entire series than Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon vs Darth Maul with Williams epic Duel of The Fates.

Is Jar-Jar unbearable? Yes.
Are there moments where this film is dull? Yes.

However, I think overall the good outweighs the bad.

1. Anakin should have been a little older, pre-teen to early teen. Just a bit younger than Luke was in ANH.

2. The pod races should have been a more serious tone. A life/death race.

3. No Jar Jar or Gungans.

4. An overall more serious tone to the entire movie like there was in Empire Strikes back.

Phantom Menace could have been really good. Revenge of the Sith could have been all-time great with a little reworking. Not sure how to save Attack of the Clones. That movie needs an entire overhaul, but it too could be fixed.

The overall plot and political intrigue of the prequels was actually pretty good. It just needs to be better fleshed out and done in a more adult tone.

Not a coincidence that Empire and Rogue One are loved and they are both gritty and serious in tone.
