For charcoal, if you are just doing basic grilling and not a lot of smoking, the Weber Kettle is the undisputed champ. It can do a lot of things. If you go that route get either the 22" or 26" model.
Depending on your budget, and wanting to stick with Charcoal but want to smoke occasionally without a lot of effort, Kamado Joe probably has the best options in the Kamado space at the moment. You can either spring for one of their classic models or if money is tight, they offer the Kettle Joe now which is like a combination of a Kettle cooker with Kamado performance.
Now if you are interested in smoking a lot and want something to give you authentic smoked flavor, the Old Country Smokers G2 may be the best bang for your buck as home stick burners go.
