The EPA and modern crash safety standards killed off the little trucks we had in the 80s and early 90s. MPG requirements are or were calculated by wheelbase and that forced all the little trucks off the market. Best we can do now is midsize and minivans with beds like the Maverick and Ridgeline.
The Yotas, Nissan Hardbodys, Isuzus, Mazdas, and even the Mighty Maxs were just about unkillable and cheap.
