How do y'all marry people and hate their parents?

Just seems like a miserable way to live.
Unnecessary and volunteered drama for the rest of your life.
Why???
Mother-in-law mother's day thread got me thinking.
ETA: Looks like the downvotes are from people that do have the shitty parents.

Well, seems like it would be more miserable to hate my wife and love her parents, for one. Her Mom lives 5 hours away... my wife lives in my house.
ETA: my wife isn't real fond of her mother either.

Agree. Chillin at my in-laws right now. Go shooting all the time with FIL and get along great with MIL too.

Undefeated means undefeated baw.

If my spouse couldn't get along with my family, I'd DX her.

I loved my FIL but he's gone now.
I honestly didn't know them really well when we got married. Sure, I'd met them 3 or 4 times already, but they live 400 miles from us.
Honestly, it wouldn't really matter much to my life if I didn't like them. I'd see them maybe 6-8 days per year.

I never met mine. One refused to leave his country and the other was driven to kill herself by her husband.
Didn’t find that last part out til too late.

I definitely like my in laws better than my ex. Wish I could have kept them.

She didn’t get to choose her parents.
It’s not her fault they’re shitty human beings
I rarely have to see or speak to them.

I loved my MIL & FIL just fine, & they loved me as well…

I adored my MIL. She was one of my favorite people over the entire span of my life.

I dated people in the past and didn’t like their parents, I feel like it caused problems in those relationships. Luckily I like my in-laws.

If you have decent parents who mind their own business and don't "Marie Barone" your relationship with your spouse, everything will be fine.

Unfair question unless you also add this one, “ How do so many parents hate their children’s spouses?”
I think the above situation is far more prevalent and far more uncalled for.

My wife doesn’t like and can barely tolerate my parents. i specifically moved away from them with my wife and son for the sake of my marriage.
They are good people that I love dearly and feel that I was raised well by but they are ok to mediocre grandparents and were pretty bad selfish parents.
They did all the right things in raising children but did the bare minimum in terms of building relationships or any affection.
We mostly don’t talk about my family unless they are coming to see us. She gets pretty angry around them.
I did send a card and called my mom this morning.
ETA: I love my in-laws. I’ve actually got along with every girlfriend’s parents better than I have my own.

Sometimes I think I like my MIL more than I like my wife. She's an awesome lady. I got lucky.

I don’t hate mine and I don’t think that they hate me — I think we’re at a point where we just do what we have to do and be cordial.

I’m lucky that my in-laws are great, but you should marry who you love. Their family should not be a factor.
If you choose not to marry someone due to their family, you weren’t really in love to begin with, so it’s a good thing you didn’t marry.
