Feral Hogs

So twice now in the past 4-5 days I have seen a pack of 7-8 wild hogs right at my property line. They come out of the woods. I saw prints in my pollinator garden but no other damage - yet. Since we are at the end of a subdivision shooting ain't an option.
What y'all got?

A bow or trap? Not sure of the legality.

You’ll need to fence them out. Nothing will repel them besides shooting them.
I have thin wire mesh fence that is only 20 inches high. I got the green coated one from Lowe’s and it blends in well with the woods. Small garden stakes holding it up. As long as the fence is flush with the ground, they won’t push it or root under it.

pigs are smart and even more opportunistic than the average section 8er. Once you make it clear they aren’t welcome they’ll move on

Louisiana wildlife & fisheries rules
As long as you have a license you can shoot at night and before sunrise. Not sure how your neighbors are, but I would recommend giving a heads up if you want to shoot them.

If you can fence them out, that’s best long term option. I surrounded my house by pipe fence with the lowest rail about 6 inches off ground and spacing between rails that I thought would keep them out. It replaced a barbed wire fence that didn’t deter them. The pipe fencing didn’t work either. The wire type fencing as the other poster suggested would probably work as would hog panel fencing. I debated doing that around the bottom of the fence but didn’t like the look. I settled on a one strand electric fence around the entire perimeter of my pipe fence which surrounds my yard. That has worked going on 5 or 6 years now. I know the hogs come near the fence because I can see rooting in the pasture on the other side, but they haven’t crossed the electric boundary. I don’t know if they can hear or feel the current. Whatever it is seems to work. My dogs learned about it pretty quickly and now they don’t go closer than several feet to it. It seems like animals can sense the current. Shooting them does seem to discourage sounders from the area but not permanently. That may not be an option if you are in subdivision. Trapping is best option to try and get rid of them but, it’s best to get the whole sounder at once. Locally, lsu ag would loan out its drop traps but it’s been years since I’ve seen that option advertised. Long term however, a different sounder will eventually come though and thus, it would be a constant effort to try and trap them and get rid of them. Putting up some sort of boundary deterrent, either fencing or electric barrier, is likely the best option for your circumstance.

A buddy of mine has traps. Catches a bunch at a time. Camera setup, drops a cage from his phone!

I’ve seen this kind of setup you described where we quail hunt. They cleaned out a lot of them. They were giving the things to people that are poor.
OP if you know someone that bow hunts that might be an option. If I lived closer to you I’d send my boy over. They must hate a pig because they stack them up like firewood. No deer season then pigs it is for them kids. The pig population has gotten out of control in the south. Wish governments paid bounties on those things. They wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t such prolific breeders. Deer have 1-2, occasionally 3 fawns once a year. A pig can have 8 to say 12 piglets and turn right around and have another litter or two in a calendar year. That’s hard to keep in check.

You can make a simple C-trap out of T posts and cattle panel. Make sure you secure the panel better than you think you should or they will either root under it or bust out at the seam. If they are trap shy then you can set up a stick to hold the shoot open a bit and put that on a trip wire.

if in MS, the ag department will trap them if you meet certain conditions. Otherwise, buy some smaller traps and try it yourself. Shooting them, although fun, you get one or two and the rest will run off. Trapping/poisoning them is the only way.

Hog prints through it
I'm keeping fingers crossed they'll move on. I can't do most of these suggestions but appreciate them anyway.

Let someone with a rifle/can smash a few of them. They are smart and may not come back.

Dig a 6' deep hole and put punji sticks in the bottom.

I shoot them from the porch with a suppressed 300blk and it doesn't even wake up the kids.
