pitching got worse his second year at A&M. That's not stability.
Was it down player to player or as a whole?
What does the rest of his career look like?

Guys have hit but the guys behind them haven’t in critical moments. Take Sunday. Braswell gets on and not one guy can find a hole.

Statistically their staff regressed, particularly the number of walks issued and the staff ERA. As for his record, yeah, he has a CWS ring, but only because three Arkansas fielders forgot how to handle a pop up.

By the way, thanks for asking pertinent questions and not being a giant dickhead like a lot of people on here.

I picked them to go 17-13. After watching a few scrimmages, I knew the offensive struggles would be there, but I kept thinking back to the 2022 team. Jay's first year here. How could a team with Ma'Khail Hilliard as their Friday night starter go 17-13 in the league, and this one can't?
Crews, Morgan. Daughty, Dugas, Berry, etc. A really good offense made up for a mediocre pitching staff. Hench, 17-13.
eta: Plus, Gervaise and Reyzelman were money closing out games.

I 100% agree with your take. I did another post where I compared 23 vs 24 teams Yes there was more talent in 23 BUT the stars played like stars and everyone else OVER ACHIEVED
This year the stars were ok but everyone else UNDER ACHIEVED big time especially pitchers. I believe Coach J thought staff would carry this team. Bright spots this year were Monster and Larson. Jared Jones defense is better and I see him as high draft pick in 25.

How much turn over in the pitching staff from 2022 to 2023?
I know for a fact that aTm went from 3 established starters in 2022 to one (Dettmer) and he had injury issues during 2023 with the other two moving on from the program.
Raw numbers do not always paint the complete picture.

Jones is a draft eligible sophomore and will easily be drafted in the first 10 rounds in June (next month). I would be very surprised to see Jones in an LSU uniform next season.

8th inning Sunday is our season in a nutshell. Runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs. None of the next 3 guys gets a hit. Any one of them does and it’s a tie game.

Didn’t realize Bear is draft eligible.
Why is that?
Why is that?

3 years removed from HS or over 21 yrs old by draft day or soon thereafter. Bear falls into the latter category.

I'm disappointed at how poorly this season has gone, but I never agreed with the preseason polls, nor most of what people around here were saying on local shows about how deep the pitching was.
I had very low expectations for the offense, and I saw an awful lot of assumptions about pitchers who had way too much yet to prove, to think that they were all going to be that good. I thought this team would make the post season, but thought they'd be pretty underwhelming and not a real threat to make a run. It's gone way worse than I expected, despite the fact that we have one guy, Jared Jones, who has been way better than I expected him to be.

Also pitching staff was supposed to be an embarassment of riches. Big problem is CJJ seemed to think all these things as well. His only concern in preseason interviews was who to play and how to keep everyone happy.

7.) Cam Johnson was supposed to be the Second Coming of Vida Blue.
That never happened because he has NO CONTROL of his 105 mph pitches.
Linehan, no I mean Peetz, sorry I mean Yeskie, couldn't do anything of consequence to help
MLB saw it too, thus no wretched excess contract. Go to LSU, prove yourself, then come back and see us .(All you fartknockers go look up Vida Blue if you don't know who he is)

He was born on the literal cutoff day to be eligible as a sophomore. If you’re 21 on or before August 1, you’re eligible. Jones turns 21 on August 1

True but Jones did drive in Pearson from third on the fielders choice. That’s a good, productive AB

No guarantee White scores from second on a hit. The frustrating part was Larson striking out with a man on 3rd and 1 out. Put the ball in play on the ground in the IF or in the air to the OF and it’s likely a tie game
Regardless, the whole team doing nothing most of the game was far more frustrating than only scoring 2 in the 8th.

True, but my point is there have been too many instances like that this season including others in the Sunday game. Our inability to drive in runs with runners in scoring position has been our biggest problem this year.

I don't disagree. But I think getting two runs in when the first 2 reached base in the inning isn't a great example of us not producing runs. We've had plenty of times this season, and last weekend, where we had runners on base and no outs and scored zero runs out of the deal. It's hard for me to really complain about a crooked inning.

You can not consistently win at any level like that.
