The computer exams have 'monitoring software' but there are ways to get around the camera systems.

That software is hella invasive too. Wants access to everything. I was cheating on a test using this monitoring software and thought I was being sneaky using my phone offscreen. At the end of the test I realized you can see the reflection of the phone in the glasses I was wearing. Somehow I didn't get flagged.

Probably felt sorry for how dumb I was.

I was working on my masters degree in math back in the 70s and took this very complex statistics course. I noticed the problems on the first test all related to situations in India. I went to the library and actually found the book our professor was using for the test problems. All the problems had the worked answers also in the book. I just memorized the answers for the next two tests and the final. I was the only one who received an A in the class which was full of Chinese and Asian students.

Yes mostly Indian dudes trying to get into medical school or pass engineering.

This Indian dude at Tulane was even trying so hard to act like he wasn’t cheating during an Orgo exam, he brought his test to a TA to ask him a question and his cheat sheet fell right out then and there.

He was kicked out after that. I bet they wouldn’t kick someone out for it today though!

I didn't say no one cheats.I just didn't know of any of my friends cheating and I didn't cheat in college. Obviously, some people cheat.

Friends kid going to Vanderbilt. Freshman. Take home tests in biology and other sciences, history, etc. They are encouraged to google answers. Wow. No blue book exams in theater size lecture halls at night?

They will be ready to protest for social justice after four years of that. Vanderbilt. Not some backwater community college.

First semester @ LSU law in 2000, we had a guy in our section that got busted. It was in the old building... don't remember the class. Basically, he went to the bathroom multiple times during the exam and was asking other guys in there what the answers were... which doesn't really make sense to do on a law school exam. Dude was asking this in front of multiple people, on multiple instances. All were afraid they would get honor coded if they didn't report him. So multiple people reported him.

As I recall, the school provisionally allowed him to complete all his finals and planned on addressing the issue after that. I don't think that was ever needed because the guy flunked out that first semester.

I had a friend get caught cheating in the first semester of his 3L year in law school. He flushed 4 years at Washington and Lee and 2 years at Duke down the drain. I have never seen a human look so broken when a death wasn't involved. Got kicked out and ended up an insurance salesman, not a bad job but nothing like the money he would have made in Biglaw.

I got busted at LSU for copying parts of a final project from a friend of mine. I took all the heat because he was just trying to help. I had to meet with a few people outside of my department who had no idea how to tell if I copied or not. They eventually gave up and let the teacher decide what to do. He gave me a 0 and I had to retake the class

Our dynamics teacher basically told us he didn't care if we cheated on homework (which was modeled after the tests) and he encouraged us to study as a group.

That said he also told us to choose carefully who we study with because he will fail us without mercy and not report us to the university .

GroupMe is basically a cheat code at this point. All you gotta do is invite someone that took the class the previous semester and you’ll have enough prior knowledge to make studying easier.

I’d say they were dumb for paying $150 for a final 35 years ago but if they were struggling with 1021 it makes a lot of sense

Never came up with some big scheme to cheat but it was really easy to look at other people's exams in those huge lecture halls.

By the time I gather all my information, evidence, and the grade (F) is posted… the Dean already knows and has come to the same conclusion…then we call them in.
We lay all the evidence out in front of them and ask them to explain. 100% of the time, they cave…and accept their fate. A good prof, would never do anything in class or public… it’s frowned upon and can lead to outbursts or wrong information.
TLDR… my students that are caught cheating are fricked long before they even know it. I call it… The Silent Death.

Some ROTC guys broke into the professor's office prior to the third exam in my thermo III class at AU. This particular prof would put one nearly impossible problem on every test, and if you managed to solve it, you were virtually assured of an A. Well, sure enough, that was the test I managed to solve that damned problem on.

Because they couldn't figure out for sure who the ROTC guys shared the test with, the test was thrown out for the entire class. I think those guys all lost their ROTC schollies and got booted from AU. I wound up with a B when that test would have locked in an A for me.

During an Ed class final, a football player named Verge kept asking me for answers. The professor was either deaf or didn’t want to get involved. I wonder what became of him? ;-)

Ahhh, the late 80s.

caught cheating on college exam?

Not caught exactly. A dick that lived in the same dorm as me smacked me on the shoulder during an econ. final until I let him see my answers. So of course I shifted my answers up by one spot from the correct one (multiple choice). He finished, and then I erased and corrected them all on my test. He literally got a zero, worse than random guessing. The professor called him up for special recognition for his perfect F. The prof. knew that something was seriously facked with the result. Harsh on my part, maybe. But don't demand that I help you cheat.
