This could theoretically work as long as the mic is only cut based on time, and not due to a "fact checker" or "neutral arbiter" AND both candidates agreeing on a moderator.

I agree with this type of idea. I can't stand the childish gibberish after their time is up. If you get a regulated sum of time, that's that. Timer goes out, mic goes out. Not b/c someone physically controls it. Show a timer to us all, let that be that.

I agree. I actually do not mind his demands one bit. I'm surprised they didn't have demands about sitting down or specific time limits.
But why do moderators always have to be media people? I understand you need a media outlet to do the production, but why can't you get a proferssor or debate expert who isn't a tv host to ask questions?
