I loved the stage musical. Hated the book it was based on. They are breaking it up into two films, each one covering one act of the show, which makes sense as the stage show runs over 3 hours. I'm a big fan of Cynthia Erivo. She's a musical theater veteran and an excellent actress. She's definitely got the vocal chops to carry the role. I'm less enthused about Ariana Grande, simply because she's not an accomplished actress and I'm not sure if her breathy style of singing lends itself well to Broadway-style musical numbers. That said, I've heard some clips and was pleasantly surprised. She looks great in the trailer. With the exception of Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum, all of the other major cast members are accomplished singers, so they knocked it out of the park casting-wise.
