i hate to tell you this but pretty much EVERY big stadium registers something on a seismograph during a big game.
wasn't the question but thanks for the tidbit.

it's just that lsu's instance was well publicized.
if every big game registers yet this one was well publicized it must mean...nevermind, my bad

Fact is the LSU Tiger Nation have become spoiled and lazy, and do leave games in droves. I also give props to Auburn and other fan bases who have more drive and commitment than our degenerating fan base in good weather and expecially bad. I have gone to LSU games for 48 years so I have perspective.

the UL game was the first game I've actually had to sit up high in the SS
i remember a row (of about 7 girls) left before halftime
i'm sure the actual status of the game had something to do with it, but it felt like the higher up i sat, the more i felt like the people around me were bitchy and obnoxious
i remember by the 4th quarter, barely any students around me were making noise -- so little that, when i yelled on 3rd and ____, the other students around me stared at me like i had just invented yelling
it was pretty sad -- that coupled with the wave made saturday a smudge on the SS's record IMO
ETA: HOWEVER, the rest of the stadium was far worse, in terms of attendance... at least 95% of the SS stayed until 0:00, and even to sing the alma mater

Liar. There is so much embellishment and exaggeration here on the Rant when it comes to the crowd (noise and attendance). You do realize that all of this is captured for evidence on video and in pictures, do you not? You can be easily disproven on all of this as you have been in this thread.
I was there for both, you are wrong. They started leaving the UsL game with 6 minutes left in the third in small numbers then in droves BEFORE the fourth quarter started. I was standing on the ramp right above the visitors entrance watching the game and all of the people streaming out. As far as noise goes, there was nothing loud or intimidating about TS for the two games this year. The students are a different story. They brought it for both games.

My brother's an Auburn fan, and my uncle's a season ticket holder. I grew up going to their games, so I have a soft spot for Jordan Hare. But it is no Tiger Stadium.
Remember how bad Auburn was last year compared to our 'bad' season? Their fans are hungry for real wins, and Saturday was their first chance for one. The game was tight and they only got the lead late. We were beating Vandy and ULL handily by the 4th.
That said, I don't think I've ever left a game early ... including last year's Florida game, where I sat in Gator territory and watched us get pounded all day. But, I don't think most people care as much about seeing the team as I do, since I only get the opportunity to go once a year tops.

With the ULL game, you could see the crowd start to leave in the 4th quarter, NOT AT HALFTIME. It was a boring game against a boring opponent and LSU was clearly going to win.
STOP EXAGGERATING!
I was at the game, south end zone, upper. I don't think people left at halftime, but I did see people start to stream out, mid-3rd quarter.

Auburn stadium noise ... meh. Seems a little shrill and girlified to me, with all the pom pom waving and such. The crowd noise after a good play sounds like a gaggle of preteen girls screaming a high-pitched scream, "Weeeeeeee!!"

what about these:
Ole miss 2006
Troy 2008
It was pitiful how many people left both of these games...From the student section, we watched all of the fairweathers leaving...it was truly embarassing. Is this what the LSU fanbase has come to???

i leave early but at least i watch the game why it is going on. people that go to a game need to ask themselves do i want to go to the party or the game. i party but also do not stay in the aisle going to concession stand.

I went to my first game at Tiger Stadium two weeks ago against Vandy after many years of hearing the stories and mystique. I was dissappointed. Not what I expected.
Posted on 9/21/09 at 9:49 pm to rlp
I understand that the stadium hasn't been up to par lately, but anyone who says it isn't loud hasn't been to the games. The goal line stand against ULL was deafening. Anyone who went to the Bama game last year knows that it was insane. (the touchback, and the blocked fg) Other than Bama last year, we didn't really have many home games against quality opponents that we stayed competitive in. And just one year before that we had the 07 Florida game which was the most fun I've ever had at a sporting event in my life. Not to mention Auburn 07. The Bottom line is that Tiger Stadium is still indeed one of the toughest placest to play. Just wait til we get a quality opponent in our housse. We won't disappoint.

Get your heads out of the sand.
Our TS crowds ARE fairweather and no other Top 10-15-level team's fanbase empties out of their home stadium like ours does.
I've attended games 20 years ago and games now and there IS a difference.
The TS mystique is becoming a thing of the past. The team now has to carry the crowd--not the crowd the team.
There's something obscene when a significant percentage of the TS crowd is not genuine hardcore LSU football fans, but corporate fat cats in corporate seats sucking other corporate dick to put the next Big Deal together.

playing vandy close is shitty? youre a dipshit. i've never seen so many excuses why people leave the games early. somebody posted remember 03,05,07 thats 3 games in 5 yrs. TIGER STADIUM IS 99% MYTH BASED ON BILLY CANNON'S RUN.

oh yeah and the day the valley shook.there are real fans and half arse fans. half arse fans leave at half, thats a fact deal with.

What they did will not matter when we beat their arse!!
Posted on 9/21/09 at 11:36 pm to cardee2003
This started around 2006 when we had a weak home schedule and we pulverized pretty much everyone we played at home. People started leaving early and have done so consistently ever since unless it's a Top 10 opponent.

Out of curosity, did LSU ever win 32 straight Saturday Night home games back in the "good old days" of Tiger Stadium?
Posted on 9/21/09 at 11:54 pm to Draconian Sanctions
There are a handful of primary contributors to fan apathy:
1) TV - more (all?) games on TV now. Used to be on TV 2-4 times a year.
2) Technology - couldn't watch the game outside the stadium. If you wanted to see the Tigers play you had sit inside TS. Not any more.
3) Too many weak OOC teams. ULL, La Tech, and Tulane do NOT generate muc interest. IN the 60-80's we played six SEC games which left 5 other games. It wasn't uncommon for LSU to play two or three marquee teams in the same year (Nebraska, USC, UW, Notre Dame, Miami, FSU, A&M, tOSU) all played in the 70-80's at TS. Apart from VaTech, when was the last time we played a marquee OOC team in TS? (I wouldn't consider either Oregon State in '04 and Zona in '06 marquee teams).
4) After the run of success we've had and then the huge drop-off in '08, until we get a signature win and announce ourselves as serious contenders for the NC, fan interest will be low.
I'm not making excuses; just giving reasons.
