No - he didn't. As a proud VA/WVian, General Lee saved the South from certain defeat with his superior battlefield prowess. Without generals such as Lee and Stonewall Jackson (WV'ian), the South would have collapsed with 12 months. Richmond and VA did not collapse until the VERY end of the war, in April 1865. Most of the south collapse long before that, so when y'all deep south rebels call us Virginians "Yankees" keep in mind we were the last to fall............
