I think there are a lot of variables to consider in this question. Competition at the end of a season is typically better (SEC-level) than competition at the beginning of a season. Players are typically less healthy at the end of the season than the beginning. Opponents also have more film (aka more data on how to beat you) at the end of the season than the beginning.
