Teams get hot at the end of the season. LSU is a prime example. Also why would Bama be ranked higher than Miss? Didnt Miss just beat them a few weeks ago? These polls etc SUCK. College football is too much politics, lets pkay a realy 12 team playoff. Top 4 teams get a bye, the rest play wildcard weekend at the higher seeds home stadium, then you advance to the higher seeds home stadiums the next week, the play your final 4 in bowl games and then the NCG. Why not??? 4 teams is just a tease, its still not enough...

There should never have been a playoff - now we have begun the never ending process of adding more and more teams to the bracket.

Before I die I think I will see a 32 teams playoff. Its gonna suck. The best team will hardly ever win it.

EDIT - It would make more sense to me to
1) make the selection after bowls, and return the bowls to their pre-bowl alliance status. Making the selection after a bowl round means one more round of mostly big games to separate the men from the boys.
2) bring back ties in everything but championship games. The existence of ties adds more "resolution" to the rankings.

Anytime you attempt to determine the best through subjective polls you're heading for less than satisfying results.

I've advocated for 16... 12 might do.

Like 2001, this may end up being one of those years that nobody wants LSU late.

Terrible idea. If you want to make the playoffs, you have to play well all year long.

12 teams would suck. 6 teams would be perfect with 1 & 2 getting byes

Nope. What makes college football great is that small margin of error that makes EVERY game an important game.

3-loss teams have absolutely no business playing for the national championship. None. I don't care how well they are playing at the end, the entire season has to matter. Each game ha to matter. It is what makes college football the greatest regular season in sports. Adding 8 more teams would bastardize that.

Cause they are better than Ole Miss and have better wins... Why isn't LSU rated above Ole Miss?????

I like the way it is in high school here in Louisiana.

32 teams with no human element involved at all in determining seeding. Power rankings, SOS, and how you play determine your seeding.

I don't think 12, but I could definitely get on board with 6, maaaaaybe even 8.

I don't think 4 is really any better than the BCS--it's still too constricting.

The problem is that the number of teams that deserve to reach the playoffs changes every year.

8 teams. Five major conferences get an auto-bid, 3 at-larges. First round hosted by the higher-seeded school, then go to the big bowls for the round of four and championship game. Contrary to what people say, that in no way destroys the regular season. There's no taking the last few weeks off like you do in the NBA and NFL, as your seeding is still up in the air or you could lose your at-large.

And start it as soon as possible, it sucks having the BCS system where the top two teams take a month off and then play. It throws all of your rhythm off.

I love your idea for making college football's regular season into a meaningless shitfest like college basketball.

Oh wait, it sucks.

LSU had their chance.

What makes the most sense is having all the conference champions play in a playoff to determine winner. They would just need to add another game for conferences without championship games.
