LSU Students to protest Daughters of Confederacy on campus

This should be good...
A meeting of the United Daughters of the Confederacy on LSU’s campus this week has prompted push back from some students, who say they are planning a demonstration in response.
Cimajie Best, president of the LSU’s NAACP chapter, said the Lod Cook Hotel and Conference Center’s role as host to a group that celebrates the Confederacy sends the wrong message to students — particularly at a time when the nation is embroiled in a debate over the appropriateness of Confederate symbolism and imagery.
“It’s bad enough that we have buildings on campus named after Confederate soldiers, but I’ve come to the conclusion that won’t change in my lifetime,” Best said. “This is taking it too far.”
Best, who said she planned to file a complaint with LSU’s Office of Student Advocacy and Accountability, said she views it as LSU granting legitimacy to the group.
“It’s just a slap in the face for LSU to even be hosting such an organization,” she said.

No regular person cares anymore. They took a little momentum and went crazy with it.
Thank God they're not better at this.

Best characterized the NAACP-sponsored event slated for 5 p.m. Thursday as a “Confederate BBQ,” where the flag will be “roasted” on a grill.
It is against the law in Louisiana and four other states to mutilate the Confederate flag. Louisiana’s law sets punishment at a $100 fine and 90-day jail sentence for anyone “convicted of mutilating, defiling or casting contempt by word or act” against the flag, though it’s unlikely that would be enforced because of U.S. Supreme Court rulings that have upheld the right to burn the United States flag.
Best said she has invited various campus groups to join the “Confederate BBQ” at Milford Wample Park, sometimes referred to as Stanford Park.
She said the demonstration will be a celebration of the Black Lives Matter movement but also a time of “good food and fellowship” to promote unity.
“Everyone is welcome,” she said.

It is always entertaining to see what people in this country bitch about, when we actually had the balls and resolve to do away with slavery. Africa is where slavery in America took some of its roots, and continues to thrive this very day in Africa.

LSU is not hosting the event, just renting space.

They tried to name a building after Sherman but the students complained about that too.

The objects of the organization are Historical, Educational, Benevolent, Memorial and Patriotic:
To collect and preserve the material necessary for a truthful history of the War Between the States and to protect, preserve, and mark the places made historic by Confederate valor
To assist descendants of worthy Confederates in securing a proper education
To fulfill the sacred duty of benevolence toward the survivor of the War and those dependent upon them
To honor the memory of those who served and those who fell in the service of the Confederate States of America
To record the part played during the War by Southern women, including their patient endurance of hardship, their patriotic devotion during the struggle, and their untiring efforts during the post-War reconstruction of the South
To cherish the ties of friendship among the members of the Organization
What a horrible group of people!!!!

I believe in tolerance and free speech. People should be able to speak their mind. People should accept others beliefs .
If you say something I don't like or disagree with me, I'll kill you and you should be governmentally silenced and jailed.

LSU is intolerant and giving legitimacy to the Daughters of the Confederacy by renting meeting space to them, however she is inviting people to a unity event where flag burning is a central attraction.
