Georgia is another great example. They have significantly higher corporate taxes, but get more large business developments because of the ease of paying their taxes. Our tax code is very complex. Most corporates don't mind paying a little more if they don't have to jump through as many hoops. You broaden the base with income tax and sales by removing loopholes, exemptions, and the need for refunds. If EVERYONE paid something whether it be 1%, 5%, or 8% (I'm just making up numbers, nothing significant about these) income tax wise it would be a start. Also eliminating sacred cows like the homestead exemption( which our's is way high), would be a huge step. Personally I wouldn't have a problem with taxing property rather than income. It's far more predictable and easier to budget with. Bottom line, we need a more predictable and fair tax code both for business and individuals.
