Another movie question: This was possibly answered when I checked out of paying close attention but how was the queen's shield disabled? Also how were they able to plane out the alien ships instead of crashing into the ground head on? I thought they had complete engine failure.

His daughter took it out with the blasters(?) of one of the enemy ships she was piloting.

Another plot hiccup was how the alien fighters immediately fell out of the sky when the queen died, except for those ships piloted by the humans.

I don't know how her shield was disabled either. Just by shooting at it and sheer force of Liam-will. I love how when the shield goes down, they aim for her hands. Instead of her fricking head which was an easier shot anyway.

Bc by this time the movie had gone full retard anyway. I kinda thought they were making a kamikaze dive into the head.

I still considered the biggest farce of the entire movie to be Pullman stepping up to save the world. He was basically a borderline psychotic after the 1st ID and hadn't flown an aircraft in 20 yrs. Why would he? Now all of a sudden he is capable and able bodied enough to fly a machine that is light years beyond his understanding? I get that the fundamentals of aviation are there but no possible way he hops on it like riding a freaking bike.

Movie was dog shite.

At times, I couldn't take it serious. From the plot holes, cheesy one liners, and ultra fast pacing. I felt like I was watching one of those Sci Fi b movies with the sharkanado or killer crocodile 8.

Two things which I just shook my head at were when the Dr. scratched his arse when he was in his hospital gown and when the presidents daughters fiancée whipped out his dick and pissed while sticking the bird to the aliens.

Overall I was expecting much more, even from a mindless Summer blockbuster. Save this for a hungover Sunday afternoon.

Yeah I thought that too. Not very plausible. Of course the first movie had random people expertly pilot jet fighters and Will Smith expertly piloted an alien ship so it's kind of tradition here.

Saw this today. I liked it a lot.

I think a lot of people need to go back and re-watch the original film because the new one is almost just like it beat for beat.

The original film had one million characters and took forever to get going. The dialogue and storyline were cliche and cheesy as hell, but back in 1996 there wasn't anything else like it. Seeing the white house get blown up was classic cinema. Now, there are films with greater levels of destruction released every year. It was just released at the perfect time and got a lot more credit than it deserved purely from nostalgia.

A couple things I did think were kind of dumb though. Shooting the giant alien space ball [the nice aliens] just because "frick it, Aliens!" made no sense whatsoever, and if the alien machine thing had the knowledge to destroy the bad aliens, why does one shot from weaker human weaponry take it out?

Secondly, it feels like at some point the writers realized the guy they cast to play Will Smith's son sucked so they gave almost all his lines/scenes to Liam Hemsworth, but couldn't get rid of him so they just him tag along for the whole film. Completely pointless character, but even without Will Smith, this film retains the comedy of the original film which was a concern I had from the trailers.

Also, what happened to Jeff Goldblum's wife from the original film? It's implied he has the hots for the british scientist chick, but it's never explained what happened to his wife when it looked like they were getting back together near the end of the original film.

Yeah, that was awful. Even worse that they just sort of carried on with their business after that. You'd think there would be a bigger sense of urgency after they had their first encounter since the 1996.

I loved the first ID4. It had some charm and based as much in reality as it could've been. This one shite all over it. Horrible pacing, writing, dialogue, etc. I really don't know where to start. So many convenient stories. You'd think that if they had 20 years to come up with a sequel, it would've been better than that garbage. How awful was the government accountant?

That made me upset more than it should've. No explanation whatsoever.

I really think if the first Independence Day were released this year, you'd feel the same about that movie as you do about this one.

Maybe so, but I don't believe that. For instance, I think Judd Hirsch's character was absolutely awful the second time around.

Considering Bill Pullman's character was practically an invalid (who inexplicably pilots an aircraft into the enemy mothership), I was surprised his character didn't just die of old age offscreen.

Can't believe they brought Robert Loggia back for a brief cameo. That was cool for a moment then you realize that he probably died a horrible death when DC got destroyed.

Resurgence makes the original film look like an Academy Award winning masterpiece.

This was honestly one of the worst films I've ever seen, specifically with respect to the dialogue and editing. There were multiple moments that almost compelled me to leave the theater.

The John Oliver look a like was probably the most vexatious and unnecessary character in the history of films.

It really feels like the script was written in a single day, was filmed the next day, edited the day after that, and then approved for release.

And it's incredibly frustrating, because the source material is science fiction gold - and this film took it all and destroyed it.

Agreed. Had so much potential to be something beyond a cgi filled money grab.

No, there are many fair criticisms of this crappy movie, but the special effects were good. I know it's trendy to hate anything cgi. It seems almost a reflex at this point. But this is the sort of movie that requires CGI and you have to expect CGI.

I was 16 when it came out an loved it. I'm sure if it came out today I wouldn't love it quite as much. But I actually watched part of it today on HBO. Yes, it had plenty of cheese and cliches but it still came together as an entertaining and exciting movie.

Movie was just awful. I wasn't expecting anything mind blowing but this was drivel. The young actors were just terrible. And how did the stripper become the top doctor in Los Angeles or wherever she was at. All around terrible dont even watch this crap from a Redbox

Well... remember that time back in 1996 when they extended a hand a friendship to an unknown alien craft parked DIRECTLY over their major cities instead of firing first?

YEAH, I'll give em a pass for that.
