Last year my son was in first grade. His math homework at one point included problems like 3+_=8, where he is supposed to answer the blank. This is basic algebra solving for x type stuff....in first grade.

Lay out 8 sticks on a table. Shown your son if you counts to three, how many are left.
What's your problem with that?
First grade is too early to teach children math?
