If you were to cling to optimism...

Every team usually has one really bad or at least sub par performance a year. LSU even in our better years has had some. Even with Saban we had an awful loss to a 5 loss unranked UF team at home the year we won the national championship. We had one score on special teams and 0 points offensively and let true freshman leak torch exploit our secondary.

If this is our worst performance of the year them it might be a little bit easier to stomach. It's not common that we have our worst game in the opener but it's not like it's some universal impossibility either.

The one thing that really concerns me is that I genuinely think that Miles was delusional enough to think that we could just roll out the team without a very well thought out game plan and just out athlete Wisconsin. That game plan had the appearance of a game plan we would use for an early season cupcake to keep things "close to the vest" which is ridiculous. Wisconsin was a formidable opponent for any team and we should have had a much more diversified approach.

Other concerns
- punting doesn't appear to have any chance of getting better.
- The offense: it appears if we aren't successful early then we won't be successful at all. If we make a habit out of starting games with back to back 3 and outs we can expect the rest of the game to go about the same. They need to develop a rhythm. We don't have the type of passing game that can just pop up out of nowhere when needed.

TLDR

I just want Les Miles fired. I can't see his face on our sideline anymore. He used to be a good coach, but those days are gone. He has gotten lazy and his OC is trashcan.

1) Sometimes teams aren't firing on all cylinders in week 1. I'm guessing this happens because some issues didn't show up in practice. Let's hope that is the case here.

2) It was a day game, and we always suck in day games. I don't know why, but we need to fix that soon. Maybe we need to bring in a psychologist. Maybe we need fewer vampires and more day walkers. idk, but I'm very tired of it.

3) We shuffled the O-Line. They might need some time to gel. They could get much better.

4) We installed a new defense. They seemed a little tentative and the tackling needs to get better, but they could get stout in a hurry. They were pretty tough in the red zone. Furthermore, as Wisky went through this with Aranda a few years ago, they were in a position to know what would cause our players trouble out of the box.

5) The run pass ratio was 58/42, which is a pretty big shift from the 70/30 we've been seeing. Plus, we actually went for a 4th and 1 in our own half of the field. Even though the resulting Wisky FG may have cost us the game, it does at least show that Les is trying to open up the offense. Whether he is capable of doing that successfully is yet to be seen.

6) Previously I was agitated that we threw nothing but long balls. Now we are calling more intermediate routes. Yes, we have a long way to go. That being said, I would like to have seen a bit more long ball against Wisky. It seems like the one time we did our receiver got hauled down.

So... It was bad, but there's hope.

Our only real high percentage short pass play is the bubble screen. LF could have housed a rb screen but naturally we missed a key block. Nothing intermediate unless harris flings one up there and has chi or dural go up and get it. TEs are ghosts (Smith could be a huge weapon) and if you're hell bent on i-form, get the fb involved with a little 3-4 yard dumpoff on first down. Extend the run game. Drag the TE. Harris just ends up in impossible situations. Their approach they took into the bowl game would have worked much better.

Its time for Miles to go. Period. His time as lsu's coach is up. I thank him for giving us a great tenure but the inability to put a offensive gameplan together just isnt there. We have the highest paid OC in cfb and tbat what we get after an entire off season? Our offense looked better last year.

I want them next week vs Jax st to really see what Harris can do in the 1st half. Open the playbook and throw the ball. If he can't light it up, scramble some and make good decisions sit him and trot out Etling to start the 2nd half to see if he can manage the offense.
