My birthday is coming up and the wife has been asking what I would want. Just curious what thoughts are on functionality from users? I wear a Swiss watch daily, but am intrigued by Apple Watch. Also, any recs on aluminum vs steel are appreciated.

TIA

My mom got my wife one last year for Christmas. She thought it was just cool to get at first. Now its a must have thing daily. But part of that is that she is a teacher and we have a 14 month old. So she feels comfort in knowing she can see any text the moment it gets sent to her

I have the 1st gen. Had it for about 3 months or so. I wasn't really sure how much I would use it.......I love the damned thing now. I didn't realize how many times I pulled my phone out of my pocket to check calls, emails, and texts.....most of them unimportant that could have waited. Oh, and get this, checking the time is easier. lol

I've gone from not giving 2 shits about it to seriously missing it if I forget to wear it. It's become an invaluable part of my work.

I too am in that conundrum. I like to wear nice Swiss watches too but the idea of a smart watch intrigued me soooooo much.

And my birthday is coming up so it's like we are the same

I would not own a smartwatch had I not gotten one for free with my phone. Pointless devices for most people.

It's handy reviewing email notifications and texts via watch rather than phone but it's not worth hundreds of dollars to be able to do that. I don't know about Apple Watch but my "smart" watch can't do much of anything aside from tell time without being in range of blutooth via my phone.

I stopped using mine and recently bought a Timex Ironman watch...it came down to two main things:

1. The Ironman watch doesn't have to be charged.
2. I don't have to move my wrist to see the time.

Plus, I prefer round face versus rectangular face.
