re: Spotify Playlists?

Find a playlist that's close to what you are looking for, and just add / remove songs that you like as you go. That's the easiest way if you don't want to start from scratch.

For SXSW, I create my own SXSW playlist, but I listen to other SXSW playlists that have every artist's song. If I hear something I like, I add it to my playlist. Eventually, my playlist grows a lot.
