She graduated from the College of Science. There were a LOT of minorities graduating, including a healthy number of black students. And the male/female ratio of graduates was exactly 50/50. Honors grads were from every corner of Louisiana. I was sort of impressed with all of that.

F. King (whom I generally do not trust) gave a great speech, albeit brief. He said this was the largest graduating class in LSU history, with the largest number of African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, and women ever to graduate from LSU.

Bill Cassidy gave the worst commencement speech I have ever heard. It sounded like he wrote it in his head while he was being introduced. Disjointed and nonsensical. Dude is just a complete goofball.

LSU is alive and well, folks. And I am now more convinced than ever that we should get rid of most of the smaller 4 year schools. If a black girl who grew up in poverty in a place like Lake Providence can succeed at LSU, anybody can.

There are a lot of factors that go into attending a smaller 4 year school that don't include an inability to succeed at LSU.

I kind of feel the opposite. Not saying we shouldn't close down some schools. But I think we should be focusing on making LSU a "better" school. Not a "we accept anyone in Louisiana since we shut down all the other schools and there are no options left" type of school. Louisiana does not have a single public institution that is remotely "prestigious" (not expecting Harvard here, just maybe compete for a higher ranking in the SEC). There was an attempt to make LSU better in that regard while I was there, but the recession thrashed that idea. In order to focus on making LSU better, we still have to keep some options available for those who can't quite make it to the top program in the state.

Yeah let's just force the majority of LA's citizens that are seeking an education to move to Baton Rouge for school.

Bill Cassidy

The most awkward, creepy looking dude in Louisiana. I could only imagine having to listen to a speech he gave, all while he mind fricks all the little boys in the room.

Most but not all. Need at least a handful of other options, especially the ones located far off.

I'm more convinced we should get rid of you. Not everyone wants to go to LSU. Some schools offer things that LSU doesn't, like affordable education. LSU isn't the end all, be all of higher education in Louisiana.

hope it was his resignation speech.

but you and F King have been pissing and moaning for years that "draconian cuts" to LSU by Jindal would shut LSU down. Per the both of you, the universtiy simply cannot survive on what they are getting from the legislature. How could they have such a large class? How can they be alive and well? there's supposed to be a funding crisis at LSU!!

You mean they are doing ok? The students didn't leave en masse due to poor funding? No need for financial exigency? They didn't have to close the campus and shut down the athletic program? Respectfully, you and F King need to STFU. You have ZERO credibility on matters of higher ed.

Never talked to the guy but I saw him talk at some local thing once and your assessment is accurate as hell.

This either says something bad about your perception of the ability of black girls from Lake Providence or says something bad about LSUs standards.

It might speak just as much to the lower quality of education provided at LSU.

This is the condescending knee-jerk reaction you get from stupid fans when LSU baseball can't beat smaller in-state schools...
