Thibodaux isn't really as bad a what people on here say. Decent schools. Fairly cheap cost of living.

I can't imagine that Ville Platte is really that much worse than Thibodaux. If you can live comfortably in Thibodaux, I'm sure Ville Platte will be fine, especially if you are doubling your income.
I would just commute the 40 minutes from Lafayette to Ville Platte.
