I have a job offer in Austin and have no idea where people live. I'm not looking to break the bank too much, but I also don't want to sit in traffic for an hour to and from work. The office is downtown Austin. I would be looking for a 1 BR apartment. Moving from Dallas.

Any help would be appreciative.

ETA: Budget of around $1,500 per month in rent.

If you think Uptown is expensive....wait until you start looking around Austin for an apartment.

What is your housing budget in Dallas and what are your expectations in Austin? That may help us to define what break the bank too much means to you.

Everyone I know lives in or near roundrock, but I only know like two people who live down there.

Both are like 26-27, but they have kids and shite. They also moved from Dallas.

You need to post a budget.

South Austin is probably going to be cheaper than north. Central Austin is crazy expensive.

If that's the case, I suggest you go no further north than Braker and no further South than William Cannon, possibly Slaughter. If you live in Round Rock or Kyle / Budah, you will have a long commute and the towns, while nice, aren't quite Austin.
