Someone, anyone explain to me why a fan of the OT should have an iota of respect for what they did to Luke Skywalker in this movie.
Abrams turning Han into a negligent, absent father/husband in TFA is a bit of a low blow but mostly in line with history of the character.
What RJ did to Luke is absolutely unforgivable. He lost his parents at birth, his caretakers as a teen, his mentor as soon as he learned his powers, his second mentor as soon as he was ready to complete his training, then his father all over again. So how is Luke rewarded for his on screen idealism and suffering? He forms a Jedi Academy (the one fricking thing every fan wanted to see) that is a catastrophic failure because *reasons* and he tries to murder his own family because *reasons* and all this happens off-screen and the info is only dumped on us at the tortured end of a tortured narrative because RJ wanted to knock fans down a few pegs and "subvert" expectations.
