Is crime the most overblown issue on the OT?

Seems like we'd all be murdered by now with the way this board thinks setting foot in New Orleans or Baton Rouge is death sentence. Downvote if you've already been shot/stabbed to death or upvote if nothing has happened to you. I'll start with an upvote.

Live around Jefferson/Corporate and work downtown. Never seen a gun on the street or heard a gunshot. Never been the victim of a crime. In 15 years.

The worst crime that has ever taken place in Louisiana happened last Sunday.

Well we did just have a woman randomly murdered in an otherwise safe neighborhood...

Yea, frick not having crime. Why live in a nice state with no crime, low DOC populations, and allow funding to be allocated elsewhere?
I’d rather live in a state that until recently had the most crime and highest incarceration rate in the country.

I've walked into a shootout before. 2005 off Franklin Avenue. Your day goes from, "I think I'm going to pick up some groceries", to taking cover.
Its easy to be at the wrong place at the wrong time in Louisiana.

When you consider the fact that a large percentage of posters here are from BR/NOLA, and they typically rank highly when it comes to crime statistics, I don’t think it’s unreasonable for it to be a constant topic of discussion.

Three shootings this month right off LSU's campus in an area that has been considered safe for decades.

My current job brings me through the worst of the hood every day. Not too bad before noon, when the worst of the natives are still asleep and most of the people out an about are decent working folk. it looks like a warzone though. The blight is insane. Burnt out houses, broken windows, abandoned businesses.
It’s sad

I was shot to death in New Orleans three years ago.

If my employees could vote.. you'd have 4 downvotes out of 31 employees... 3 shot, 1 stabbed
To be fair, most have done jail time after their injuries

I moved to Baton Rouge in May of 1992 for work, and have lived in the area ever since. And...knock on wood...I have yet to be a victim of a crime of any sort. Haven't even had anything stolen out of any of my vehicles. I've been lucky, I guess. I also try to avoid dangerous situations.

I can tell you as an ER nurse in Baton Rouge the news doesn’t report 80% of the GSW’s we get every week. You only hear about the ones that die and then only the ones that happen before 10pm. Luckily they mostly happen in the northern part of town.

Louisiana ranks as one of the top states for poverty and crime. It’s like that everywhere tho.
If you don’t like it, then leave!!!!
