If somehow we could go back in time and bring Shaq back from 1992, I think we would have someone to guard him. That said we have a good team and can beat anyone in the country on a given night.

No, that's not what I said. You misunderstood.

Forgive me if I don't respond to the rest since it's all predicated on this basic misunderstanding.

It's called a zone. Only way to stop Zion.

I think this is the answer. The one Duke semi-weakness is 3-point shooting. Of course they had the one dude go off from 3 vs. Virginia but the norm for them is below average shooting from 3. I don't think we can match up man with them on that end of the floor.

Duke is undefeated. There is no way they can lose.

I’d start in a 2-3 zone and make them shoot us out of it. And if they do,

I don’t put much stock in their high school matchup. No help defense and I’m sure Emmitt’s defense has improved under Will Wade.

Marlon would be my choice. Would love to see the tigers play against Duke this year. Zion is the next Lebron. I wish the Pels would tank and try and get him.

Emmitt Williams- he is the closest thing we have to Dennis Rodman. No one in CB can STOP Zion, but maybe Emmitt could disrupt his rhythm.

Our team is deep enough to match different packages most elite teams can show. We have the guards and shooters to play small ball and the rim protectors to play big ball. The issue- Duke plays small ball with elite size. They play a fast paced perimeter offence- they spread you out and beat you to the rim- kick it out for the 3.

I do agree that Skyler is our best perimeter defender, which is why I'd assume he would be guarding 1 of the other 2 Lottery picks Duke has on roster.

Duke starting 5:
Zion Williamson F 6-7 285 Fr - Emmitt Williams 6-6 225 Fr
Cam Reddish F 6-8 218 Fr - Naz Reid 6-10 250 Fr
Tre Jones G 6-2 183 Fr - Tremont Waters 5-11 175 So
RJ Barrett F 6-7 202 Fr - Skylar Mays 6-4 200 So
Marques Bolden C 6-11 250 Jr - Bigby-Williams 6-11 250 Sr

Our first subs would be
Javonte Smart 6-4 200 Fr
Marlon Taylor 6-5 210 Jr
Darius Days 6-6 225 Fr

Javonte would get starter minutes per usual.
Emmitt & Taylor cant be on the floor at the same time.

I think you let Mays guard him. Make it tough for Zion to put the ball on the floor and drive, but I’d be more concerned with not letting Zion break down your defense and give the other 3 first round picks get theirs. Zion is going to do his thing regardless. Try your best to slow Zion and put the focus on shutting down everyone else.

I know y'all joke but this actually isn't a bad idea. Put a tenacious big on Zion like Emmitt Williams or Days just to slow him down a little bit and then have pesky little Waters always at his ankles swatting at the ball. It should frustrate the hell out of him and get him to commit some turnovers and take him out of his game. It'll pull Waters out of position to guard the three but he never guards the three anyway. Usually because he's doing what I just described.

2-3 with a mix up matchup 1-3-1. Make duke win with 3s from the white kid and Reddish.

Since LSU never guards the 3 anyway, might as well. It's better than getting demoralized on the boards.

Will Wade alluded to this in one of his interviews. Other people have mentioned that Will Wade's teams don't guard the three well. I think it's a philosophy. No team can do everything well so you pick your poison. Wade doesn't want teams beating his guys in the lane. He knows that three-point shooting is a hot-cold game so he plays those percentages instead of allowing the high-percentage scoring inside, getting his guys in foul trouble trying to recover on defense inside and losing the rebound battle underneath.

It works.

No team that LSU has played yet has stayed hot from 3 the entire game. LSU ends up pulling it out at the end.

Reid can’t guard Reddish. I don’t think you could have Reid and KBW on the floor on the same time. They would have to take turns guarding Bolden.

RJ Barrett F 6-7 202 Fr - Skylar Mays 6-4 200 So
Marques Bolden C 6-11 250 Jr - Bigby-Williams 6-11 250 Sr

With who LSU plays vs who Duke plays, I really don't think there is much leeway here. I know everyone thinks Naz isn't athletic and what not, but I think it would HAVE to be Naz.

Reddish is a wing who is a shooter and slasher, Barrett is the same. Zion is a horse he flies into the lane. Naz can bang with Zion and just let him shoot.

Reddish/Barrett would HAVE to be guarded by a combination of Smart/Taylor/Mays there is just no way around it.

Emmitt would get first shot, Marlon second and Dayes third. But Skylar and the rest of the guards would have to play aggresive help defense whenever they were in position.

3 downvotes for the most accurate post in the thread? There are some remedial fricks here on tRant.

No one on LSU is Ding up Zion 1v1. The only way to guard him is a zone or to double him.

Period.

So Will Wade can’t be stopped by Coach K? Alright then.
