Man. I get this all the time. I am usually called in because something isn't working correctly. My first question is always "are you operating/following the design?" Usually it is no.
Just remember contractors usually get exorbitant change orders mid project to change from the original design.
Of course contractor is going to say that every engineered drawing is messed up when they have a new truck waiting for them around every mistake .

Well of course we aren't. We hired your company 10 years ago to modify the equipment. You sold us a part that opened up parameters. That part is obsolete now because there wasn't enough money to maintain support.
Now you will say 'Everyone in the industry has done away with those.' Even though we talk across industry and have peers at many other sites and circuits. We are well aware of the parts limitations, but we are at your mercy to give us the new part at the inflated price so we can start to repeat the process over again.

You clearly don’t know anything about operations
you can be a good operator and still be ignorant AF about everything else in the world.

So, is being ingnorant about everything else in the world a requirement to be an operator?
Will a major like ExxonMobil hire me as one of the top 20 applicants out of 2000 if I don’t come off as ignorant in my interview??
Or, is that ignorance acquired from working the job??

Sure, they don't care about how much you know about the world. Just operations.

Generally, the many I have had to deal with stay in their own little social bubble of operators and are pretty closed minded about anything else. I guess it has something to do with the shift work/being on weird hours a lot. I've been there. Glad I got out.
Operators wear hard hats to cover up soft feelings lol

Not everyone can handle it.

We ain’t building this sumbitch on paper. We building it in the real world.
But when those big shots are called to make a decision, their knee jerk reaction is to write an RFI to the engineer to tell them what to do!

Engineers don’t know shite.
quite the opposite.
i’m convinced those bastards sit around the bar laughing about the fricked up arse design some poor baw now has to deal with.
i’ve seen designs that had to be done intentionally by someone with a sick sense of humor.
