They played a very situational team. It was clear they weren’t going to blitz often and the game plan appeared to be centered on keeping Ellinger in front of them. I know the yardage in the air looked bad, but they were forcing him to throw. Look at 11s first half. He was less than 50%. He just came out and lit it up in the 2nd half. We played the game how we needed to. Ohh and by the way we beat a top 10 team in their own house and the score was way closer than the game was. Tigers rolled them.

We have experience but no amazing talent there. These guys wouldn’t start 10-15 years ago.

True but Ehlinger can burn you with any scheme.

I really thought having all veterans along the line would mean an improved unit, but I’m just not sure the talent is there. We have seen this unit get whipped multiple times in the last couple years. Do you think they hit their stride and become a dominant unit? Or do they continue to struggle? If they continue to struggle, what are some things Aranda can do to protect them?

The D-line got really good push throughout the first half and consistently. But Ehlinger is not a pocket passer, he is very mobile. I haven't rewatched the second half of the game yet, but they certainly got gassed during the second half. I would have to believe that 19 play drive had something to do with it.

Defense is going to be alright. Need to work on conditioning maybe. When offensive drives now are 6 or 8 plays and a score. They won’t be getting much rest on the side line between drives.

Blitz much more, but Aranda won't do that, really they made Ehlinger look much better than he really is.

The problem isn’t talent it was the short rotation we went into the game with. It was stupid to think in that kind of heat playing at that pace that we’d be able to play a 4 man rotation on the Dline. You’ve got 7 capable bodies but your plan is to play 4 in 100 degree weather vs a spread team while you’re running an up early tempo offense. I dunno who decided it but whoever did was stupid.

we have a lot of very good players on the dline but no superstars. Lawrence, Fehoka, Shelvin, IKa, Logan, and Chaisson are all pretty good players. Also Jenkins, Thomas, Farrel, and Anthoney are solid and getting better. Probably no 1st round NFL talent there but plenty of those guys will get drafted over the next few years. There probably isn't a Dorsey or Brockers among them (yet) but there is a lot of good depth and future NFL players there

There isn't any d line deficiencies so nothing to mask

I agree with this. The one thing I was dreading goings into this game was Sam going Jalen on us.

That’s what I assumed too.

Aranda did underestimate their short game and running back capabilities.

This is true too.

I recall 2011 LSU giving up a lot of yards to WV, so these things happen.

Our D-line is fine. The way the D played yesterday was situational I promise you. Our D will be great.

They played the game plan they where given and they won. Contain the QB and keep everything in front of the DB's. No big easy plays...

Why not credit Texas's offensive line? They looked very well coached and disciplined. They got away with some holding penalties on the perimeter, but all teams do.
I wasn't unimpressed with LSU's defensive front, because they were only bringing 3-4 most snaps, and they weren't getting out of their rushing lanes with many twists. The basic concept gave the Texas offensive line easier reads for pass protection. When you don't blitz or twist, and your job is to not get our of your lane, it's hard to beat a disciplined and talented offensive line protecting a mobile QB. DL is basically reading run/pass off the snap giving the big, talented offensive line time to dig in and stuff a bull rush.
I would've liked to see Aranda bring more pressure or call more twists though because giving Ehlinger time started to wear down the defense when he started converting 3rd downs more in the second half. It all worked out in the end though, and if LSU would've taken more chances, it could've been good or bad against a guy like Ehlinger.

We must have been watching different games bc I felt like Shelvin was pushing his guy back into the qb multiple multiple times but people in this thread are acting like he didn’t do his job. There were no running lanes for tejas...credit dline. We were, as many have said, bullrushing straight into the linemen in order to keep ellinger in the pocket. I was most disappointed in chaisson but many have said he was held often. I was there live so haven’t been able to assess if that is true or not. But to me, the scheme seemed to be to push the linemen straight back into the qb, keep him in the pocket, and make him beat us with his arm. I think the dline succeeded at that tremendously

Damn bro, you do understand that is a top ten team in America right? Think about it, Michigan is #7 in the country and let’s say they are playing UT this week who you taking? Exactly!!

Our defense looked awesome last week and everyone is praising them! They go up against a team that will be in the top ten all year and our dline sucks! Nope

We need to adjust a little but we also have to understand the team, QB and location in which we played!

Our defense will be fine! Hopefully Aranda dials up a few more blitzes going forward
