I agree, that would be impossible to truly tell who needs it for pain and who doesn't. But I am saying if I was a coach and had a guy on my team who was legitimately hurting to the point where he wasn't able to sleep and recover. I would choose what I personally consider the lesser of the 2 evils and let him smoke, over getting a doctor to write him a prescription for pain killers.

Another question: how does breaking the weed law compare to breaking the underaged drinking law? I can guess that the usual "but it's da rulz" crowd here would be outraged if Divinity were kicked off the team for having a beer.

I don't think alcohol is prohibited by the NCAA.

am I? Where is the parade of college players, caught for smoking weed, claiming they're doing it to ease the pain from football?

Serious question. Please link to the players using that excuse. Because I haven't seen it -- here or elsewhere.

By the way, I think it's a very tough argument to make that a college kids needs weed to deal with football pain. Again, maybe a 35 year old whose body has been destroyed by football needs more pain management, but a 20 year old kid? Come on.

of course I have.

But if I knew my employer would randomly test my speed and could suspend or fire me if I went over the limit, I wouldn't go over the limit.

Very simple.

Neither do the toradol and marcaine injections that are regularly given to them that are legal....in fact they are more dangerous

But, if big pharma can make a buck , then it's good , huh?

My question to you is would you let your 14-year-old son smoke weed to get rid of this headache?

I'm not old enough to have a 14 year old but 14-15 is a kids Freshman year of high school. A lot of parents, especially in Louisiana, let their kids drink. Maybe not openly in front of them but definitely look the other way. I think alcohol is much worse for a kid's body and brain development. By the time I'm old enough to have kids in high school I think it'll probably be more common for parents to let their kids use marijuana than it is now. If I was a parent I'd much rather my kid eat a brownie and go see a movie, play video games, or just chill with his/her stoned arse friends than go out and get drunk off their asses all the time.

Atleast legal medically. That’s just stupid.

You don't think violating state and/or federal substance use laws is prohibited by the NCAA?

Please tell me that’s not the reason you think they smoke weed.

For a 14 year old? I would tell you about studies that indicate changes in brain chemistry for teenage pot smokers but I'm sure that wouldn't change your mind because of all the FACTS that you know.

That's only with chronic use. Using a few times isn't going to do anything. Chronic acetaminophen use will destroy your liver, but you probably have no problem giving your kid Tylenol. It's all about moderation.

That’s not true.

I had an emergency appendectomy. Left the hospital in less than 24 hours with no pain killers prescribed. Smoked weed for the pain.

I will never again take an opiate for pain.

most of the seniors on every team are of legal drinking age. Please give me an example of suspensions due to alcohol.
